Accessory Kits

info

Accessory Kits are currently a Beta release. Contact us if you have questions or feedback.

An Accessory Kit is a named set (i.e. "bundle") of accessory items that go out with an item, e.g. the stand, dimmer, and cable that go with a lighting fixture. One item can have several kits, such as a "Standard" kit and a "Deluxe" kit, and on an order you pick which kit (if any) goes with each line item.

tip

These three features sound similar but do different things:

  • Bundles - one item is made of other items; renting or selling the bundle always includes its components
  • Companions - separate items that cross-sell together on your webstore; nothing is added automatically
  • Accessory Kits - optional sets of accessories that you choose per line item on an order (this article)

Key Concepts

  • Kit names ("Accessory Kit Types") are set once for your whole account in your Inventory Settings
  • Each item then gets its own kits, using those names, on the Edit Item modal's Advanced tab
  • An accessory is any other inventory item in your catalog, with its own quantity and rate within the kit
  • A kit's price is the total of its accessories' rates, and is added to the line item's rate on orders
  • Accessories in a kit are checked for conflicts just like the line item's own item
  • Accessory Kits are for Dashboard orders only; they aren't shown on your Propcart Pro Webstore or the Propcart Marketplace

Setting Up Accessory Kit Types

Before you can add a kit to an item, create your kit names in Inventory Settings:

SettingDescription
Accessory Kit TypesThe kit names available to all your items, e.g. "Standard" and "Deluxe". Type a name and press Enter to add it.
Default Accessory Kit TypeThe kit selected automatically when an item that has this kit is added to an order. Leave it empty for no default.
Accessory Summary SKUsSKUs to total up in the Accessories summary on the order detail page and the Checkout Sheet. See Accessory Summary below.

The Accessory Kits section only appears on the Edit Item modal once you've created at least one Accessory Kit Type.

Adding a Kit to an Item

  1. Open the item and go to the Advanced tab
  2. In the Accessory Kits section, click Add kit
  3. Choose an Accessory Kit Type and click Add
  4. Click the new kit's row to expand it, then click Add accessory to add accessory items to it

Each item can have each kit type only once. You can create a new kit type directly from the Accessory Kit Type field, but it won't be added to your Inventory Settings list, so it's best to set up your kit types there first.

Accessory Kits aren't available on replica items or items with variants.

Accessory Fields

Accessories have the same settings as bundle components; see Component Item Fields for the full list. In short:

  • Quantity - how many of this accessory go with one of the parent item
  • Unit Price - the accessory's rate, which counts toward the kit's price
  • Inherit Price Changes? - keeps the accessory's rate and replacement price in step with the accessory item's own prices
  • Hide on Quote / Order / Invoice? - hides the accessory from that paperwork

An accessory must use the same purchase type family (rental vs. for sale) as the parent item, can't be a bundle, and can't be added to the same kit twice. Drag and drop accessory rows to change the order they're listed in.

Managing Kits

Expand a kit and use its menu button to:

  • Rename Kit - switch the kit to a different Accessory Kit Type
  • Duplicate Kit - copy the kit as "Copy of [name]", which you can then rename
  • Delete Kit - remove the kit from this item; there is no undo

Each kit row shows the kit's total accessory count and its price.

Accessory Kits on Orders

When you add an item that has kits to an order, its Default Accessory Kit Type is selected automatically if the item has that kit. The same applies to line items created when converting a quote request into an order.

To choose or change the kit, open the line item and use the Accessory Kit field on the Main tab. Pick None to rent the item without accessories.

You can also change the kit on several line items at once with Bulk Actions → Edit Selected Line Items. Leave the Accessory Kit field empty to keep each line item's current kit, or pick None to remove the kit from all of them. Line items whose item has the chosen kit switch to it. For line items whose item doesn't have it:

  • If you chose your Default Accessory Kit Type, the line item is set to no kit, since that item doesn't need its default equipment. For example, if your default kit is "Required Equipment", bulk-selecting it removes the kit from plug-and-play items that don't have one.
  • If you chose any other kit, the line item keeps its current kit and price.

Editing a Line Item's Accessories

The line item's Advanced tab lists the selected kit's accessories. Like bundles on orders, the kit on a line item is a snapshot of the item's kit when it was added. You can add, edit, or remove accessories for that one line item without changing the parent item's kit, and the line item's Accessory Kit Price updates to match.

Once a line item has been invoiced, its kit and accessories can no longer be changed.

Accessory Kit Pricing

A kit's price is added to the item's own rate, so a line item's price is:

Quantity × (Item Rate + Accessory Kit Price) × Price Multiple, plus any surcharge

For example, a light at $50/week with a $20/week kit, rented as 2 units for 1 week, is 2 × ($50 + $20) = $140.

On Loss & Damage line items, the kit's replacement price is used instead of its rental price, the same as for the item itself. See Loss & Damage.

Show Accessory Kit Pricing

By default, paperwork and the order detail page list each accessory's price separately. Turn on Show Accessory Kit Pricing? in your Line Item Settings to show the kit as a single price instead, with its accessories listed underneath without prices.

This setting also unlocks the Accessory Kit Price field on the line item, so you can override a kit's price for a single order. That field is only visible to users whose role has the View line item pricing permission.

Availability and Conflicts

Every accessory in a line item's kit is checked against your stock for the line item's dates, multiplied by the line item's quantity. If there aren't enough of an accessory available, the line item shows a conflict, the same as when the item itself is overbooked. See Conflicts.

Keeping Kits Up to Date

When you change an accessory item's SKU, title, photo, stock quantity, or purchase type, every kit that contains it is updated automatically. Its rate and replacement price are updated too if Inherit Price Changes? is on for that accessory.

Line items already on orders keep the kit snapshot they were added with.

Accessory Summary

If you set Accessory Summary SKUs in your Inventory Settings, the order detail page and the Checkout Sheet show an Accessories summary: a single list totaling every accessory across all the order's line items, so your warehouse team can pull them in one pass.

The summary includes:

  • Every accessory in every line item's Accessory Kit
  • Any line item whose item SKU is on your Accessory Summary SKUs list, for accessories rented on their own rather than in a kit

Accessory Kits in Bundles

A bundle doesn't carry over its components' Accessory Kits. When you add an item with kits as a bundle component, you'll be asked to confirm. If the bundle needs accessories, add a kit to the bundle item itself.
